CUPE Manitoba Territorial Acknowledgment
We acknowledge that we are on Treaty 1 Territory. We pay our respects to the Indigenous ancestors of each place we join from today and reaffirm our relationship with one another as we learn here together.
Treaty 1 is the ancestral lands of the Anishinaabe, Cree, Ojibway, Dene, and Dakota peoples, and the homeland of the Metis nation. The original lands in MB have seen thousands of years of rich Indigenous history and is home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island today.
We remind ourselves to respect and nurture our sacred relationship to this land as well as to its First Peoples both past and present. We give thanks to Treaty 3 for the water we drink from Shoal Lake First Nation that is processed by CUPE 500 workers, and to Treaty 3 & 5 where our power and electricity is generated. As CUPE members, we acknowledge the harms and mistakes of the past, the legacy still with us today, and dedicate the work that we do to moving forward in partnership and solidarity with Indigenous communities in a spirit of truth, reconciliation, and meaningful collaboration.
